Change an MT4 Investor Password and Review Existing Access
Changing an MT4 investor password updates a read-only account credential. The useful sequence is to identify who currently uses it, perform the provider-supported change, and verify which services should retain access. A password change does not remove previously copied history.
Record the intended access change
Identify the account and exact server, then list services or people that received the credential. Decide which should continue to receive account data. Do not assume that standard investor credentials provide separate passwords or revocation keys for each recipient.
If the change is prompted by suspected disclosure, use the provider's credential and session controls and review the service's retained-data settings. Follow its actual security requirements instead of treating a fixed number of months as a universal MetaTrader rule.
Use the documented password controls
The MT4 Server documentation identifies Change and the investor-password option. The exact available route may depend on the terminal and provider; changing it is not universally restricted to either the terminal or a broker website.
- Open password management for the intended account.
- Select the investor-password option rather than the master-password option.
- Provide the current authorisation required by the legitimate terminal/provider process, then enter and confirm the new investor credential.
- Follow the displayed password requirements and check whether the change was accepted.

Verify retained access without attempting a trade

No such result should be assumed. Review provider session controls, service disconnection and retained-data settings separately and confirm the resulting state. Copied files are not retrieved by changing credentials.
Should I send a test trade after changing the password?
