MT5 Trading Journal: Record Decisions and Review Your Notes

A useful MT5 trading journal keeps your decisions alongside the execution records. Record what information you used, what you planned and what changed. Keep later reflections separate from notes made at the time. A transaction import cannot reconstruct your original reasoning.

Use the right record for the question

RecordUseful forLimitation
MT5 Journal and Experts logsPlatform events, messages and operational troubleshootingA technical event does not record your complete decision context
Trading report and statementRecorded account transactions, costs and period summariesCheck its coverage and calculation basis; a statement is not your reasoning
Decision notesSetup, planned invalidation, deviations and later reviewThese are your annotations, not broker-confirmed facts or an independent audit

The official guides describe platform logs and native trading reports. MT5 already has analytics; the additional journal task is to preserve and review the decision context you choose to record.

Write a note another review can interpret

Include the account context, instrument, relevant transaction identifier and timestamp with timezone. Describe the setup and the information available, the intended entry and invalidation, and any change you made. If you are recording after the event, label it as a retrospective note rather than implying it was written before the outcome.

Use a consistent tag meaning. For example, a strategy label should describe a defined setup rather than merely separating winning trades from losing ones after the result. A feeling recorded in a note is a self-report; it does not prove that the emotion caused the outcome.

Add an entry in the current MyVeridex Journal

  1. Open Journal and choose New Entry. You need to be signed in for an entry to be saved to your account.
  2. Write the note. The form requires nonempty notes; describe the decision and any later reflection clearly.
  3. Choose an emotion if useful, and add a strategy preset or your own tags. These are your annotations.
  4. If the form offers relevant recent trades, review the listed transaction identifiers and select only the ones you mean. Record the identifier in the note if the later review needs an explicit reference.
  5. Use Save, then reload the Journal and check that the note, tags and intended context remain. Do not assume persistence from the entry appearing once in the current view.

The recent-trade selection is limited; it is not a complete historical search or an independently audited transaction link. The current entry summary can combine a recorded P&L with a daily trade-count basis, so compare it with the source before describing it as the result of a selected subset. Keep account and currency context explicit when reviewing several accounts.

Keep the source record separate from the annotation

MyVeridex currently offers MT4 and MT5 connections and supported closed-transaction statement imports. Use the MT5 connection guide for that separate workflow. The sync and reconciliation checks explain how to review coverage and costs.

Neither a qualitative note nor an imported balance reconstruction supplies a complete historical floating-equity path. A MyVeridex badge is a recorded product status, not independent assurance that a note or every source record is complete. Do not describe annotations as immutable broker evidence.

Review decisions without rewriting their history

Choose a defined review period and include the losses and deviations as well as the gains. Ask whether you followed the intended process, whether the setup definition was clear and which question needs more observation. A collection of favourable notes is not proof of a future edge.

Keep the original decision note and clearly label a later correction or reflection. If a saved entry disappears after reload or a summary disagrees with the statement, preserve the original information and contact support with nonsecret context.

For choosing a workflow, use the separate MT5 journal requirements checklist. Journaling can make a review more structured; it does not guarantee improved returns, a passed evaluation or acceptance by a recipient.

Frequently asked questions

Is the MT5 Journal tab the same as a reflective trading journal?

No. The documented platform log records operational events. Decision notes separately record your setup, reasoning and later reflection; native trading reports provide another view of transactions and metrics.

Which MyVeridex journal fields are currently available?

The current Journal has notes, an emotion selection, strategy presets, tags and a limited recent-trade selection. Check what is saved after reload and do not assume an independently audited trade link.

Does an automatically collected trade explain why I entered it?

No. Record the context yourself and label a retrospective explanation as retrospective. An execution record does not establish the original intention.

How do I know an entry was saved?

Reload the Journal and confirm that the entry and intended fields remain. A single appearance in the current view is not proof of persisted storage.
